OLLI's coordinators' meeting; Keiko Whitlock

There was a coordinators' meeting at OLLI this morning!

I will be ready with a new syllabus at the Open House on the 23rd!
I also will be wearing Kimono so that you may be interested!
Anyway I enjoyed talking to lots of OLLI coordinators after a long holiday break as well as the continental breakfast especially these pastries.
they were great!! I wonder where I can get those...
Well.... I'd better not know though.. I'm not confident at all that I can control my appetite...
I've been busy working as a background actor in a certain Hollywood movie being filmed somewhere in Las Vegas and I cannot take the powerpoint class at OLLI...
The class was what I was really looking forward to take, but the acting job is also what I ha
d been wanting since I immigrated to America...
But to me it seems a plan from God that I happened to have break today for this meeting and 23rd for the Open House!!
I will enjoy working hard with full of gratitude for the movie and OLLI!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

THIS IS A NEW YEAR CARD MY DAUGHTER IN JAPAN MADE.
IN JAPAN NEW YEAR CELEBRATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN CHRISTMAS.
INSTEAD OF SENDING CHRISTMAS CARDS, WE SEND NEW YEAR CARDS TO FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AND COWORKERS.
2016 IS A YEAR OF MONKEY.
THAT'S WHY MY DAUGHTER DREW AND PAINTED THIS MONKEY.
THE LETTER SAYS "HAPPY NEW YEAR" IN JAPANESE.
BY THE WAY THE BELOW IS THE SYLLABUS FOR THE NEXT SEMESTER.
HIGHLIGHTS ARE GEISHA DANCE AND TEA CEREMONY BY KIMONO GIRLS.
I AND HIDEMI EACH CHOSE JAPANESE MOVIES FOR TWO JAPANESE MOVIE DAYS.
I CHOSE A COMEDIC SAMURAI MOVIE, MITOKO-MON FEATURING SENIOR HERO.
HIDEMI CHOSE A VERY FAMOUS ANIMATION MOVIE WHICH RECEIVED ACADEMY AWARD.  I WILL BE IN THE OPEN HOUSE ON THE 23RD.
SEE YOU THERE!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Image result for Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, Every one!!

Thank you for attending our class, "Japan!"!

It was our first class in this country in English, a foreign language to us...

How scared were we in the first class!!(LOL)

We made lots of mistakes, but learned even more!!

I was so moved by such a warm love of the class members!!

Thank you very much for forgiving our mistakes, heavy accents, and rude comments....

Thank you very much for helping us trying to understand this different culture and even talking to us in slower and simpler English for us...

I really appreciate that you encouraged us when in trouble...

Thank you very much..

Our next class, "Japan!2" will be Wednesday at 11;00 in the Spring Semester with 2 movie days and a special event of Geisha dance and tea ceremony demonstration.

With the experiences from which we have learned a lot last semester, and our highly motivated heart encouraged by class members' love, we will make our best to provide better classes in the next semester.

Hope to see you in February in our class!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

OLLI's end-of-the-semester luncheon; Keiko Whitlock

Japan4

Oh...I liked this tart very much..

There was OLLI's end-of-the-semester luncheon last Saturday at Gold Cost.

It was a very nice setting and I enjoyed greeting and talking to wonderful OLLI members!!

Japan3

I liked this salmon too.

The food was nice, and the classic concert was beautiful too.

Thank you OLLI!!

Oh, last but not least!!

I have to give great thanks to Sachiko!!

I asked her for a ride because I thought it was on her way, but she moved to a totally opposite direction!!

But she didn't tell me that and she gave me a ride!!

Thank you, Sachiko!!

Makino Sushi; Keiko Whitlock

Japan9

I and Hidemi and Sachiko went to Makino at Desert-in and Decatur. It was a buffet and they had a huge variety of food like crazy!!

Sushi was good and pretty, and I was totally satisfied!!

Anyway special thanks to Hidemi!!

The class, "Japan!" was not done without her..

I really appreciate her hard work as a great researcher..

Thank you again!!

Japan8

gift from a class member ; ginger and sea weed

Japan7

Look at this gift!!

Isn't it pretty!!

I really didn't want ruin this beautiful gift wrapping, but I also wanted to see inside, so I opened it..

Japan10

One is packs of sea weed and it is so good!!

And the other is a ginger spread and actually it is superb!!

I have a cold right now and I just mixed about 2 tbsp. of this and a cup of boiled water and drank it, then my throat felt so good and my body was warmed up from inside!!

It was good with hot milk, cream of wheat, and green tea, too!!

Thank you Leah!!

Present from a class membe; Japanese sweats

Japan6

One of the class members gave us presents in the last class in the fall semester.

These are 5 types of different tiny cute sweats.

Japan2

Since they are so cute, I was going to share with my church choir singers at the next choir rehearsal, but I couldn't resist it and ate all before it.....

I appreciate your work to write my name in Kanji which is one of the most difficult ones.

Thank you Donald!!

Hagi Sushi ; Keiko Whitlock

Japan5

This is Hagi Sushi at Pecos and Tropicana.

This place serves real Japanese food!!

The atmosphere including table setting was exactly like a Japanese style, and I completely fell under the illusion that I might be in Japan...

Japan1_2

Look at this!! This is a grilled Saba combo(??).

This is what exactly our moms cook for us!!

The end of the year party of Japan Nevada Society of Japan at Sushi Roku

There was an end-of-the-year party of Japan America Society of Nevada last Friday.
Japanese enjoy end-of-the-year parties, or Bonenkai忘年会every year in December.

The place was Sushi Roku in the Forum Shops on the Strip.
In fact it was my first time to eat sushi on the Strip....
Nnnnnnnn....
I love to dress up and enjoy the upscale atmosphere, but..
As a local here, eating on the Strip is not so clever choices to make....maybe......

Well, but dating should be on the Strip for sure, though!!

Anyway Sushi Roku was the place I had long wanted to go since I came to Las Vegas, so my dream came true!!
Also I could tell easily that at least chief chef should be genuine Japanese, because green tea was good, I mean, rich, nice and bitter, and tempura breading(???) was nice and crispy!!  I liked that, sushi was very American though...
Anyway I met a lot of interesting people and enjoyed the party very much.
Thank you!!

It had been so hot in summer in Las Vegas, but suddenly it got cold!! Seems like there is no fall in Las Vegas!!
While I and Hidemi were struggling to adjust to the Las Vegas`s cold winter, one of the class members gifted us warm hand-nit scarf!!  Thank you very much!!
I am so appreciative!!
