2015年8月

2015年8月27日 (木)

I had a meeting with a person from Kaminari Taiko for a Japanese drum performance.

Wow!
How awesome!
Today I and Hidemi met Wendy from Kaminari Taiko Las Vegas!
She was such a cool woman!!
She knew much more about Japanese Taiko drum than we, and I could easily tell that she is a great Taiko drumer by touching her strong muscle in her arm!!
They will come to OLLI and show their marvelous performance in the parking lot during "Japan" class!
Look forward to it!!

Yen is getting stronger now!

Photo

As you know, the Dow-Jones  index has been plunging these 4 days.  It might be a bad news, but there is always something good behind a bad news;  It's a great timing to buy stocks NOW!!  Also someone who has Japanese yen like me can change it to dollars.

So I went to Bellagio today, since Bellagio is known to be the best place to exchange foreign currencies.
50,000yen was 397.40 dollars...not bad, but compared to the exchange rate 5 years ago when 1 dollar was only 70yen, we lose almost half of yen now.

Anyway I haven't been in Gellagio for a year now and as soon as I went down to Casino, I realized that I should have been wearing something nicer. (lol)

And in fact today is my birthday.
I am 55 years old today and officially qualified as senior (?), for example for the senior discount at VONS!

Do you know any other senior discounts for 55+s?

So....Since it's my birthday today, I'm going to eat SUSHI!!

Japanese Culture Day at National Atomic Testing Museum

Photo_5_2

Isn't it pretty?
I went to a "Japanese Culture Day" event at National Atomic Testing Museum
and Japanese calligraphy or shodo teacher wrote, painted?, this for me.
I tried shodo too.  Actually I forgot how to do it...

They had a tea ceremony demonstration too.
It was very beautiful...
And the teacher was American.  Wow!!
They are 'Urasenke'

Then I met Taiko drum guys.
They will play taiko drum for our class in the fall semester.  Yeah!
They are 'KORABBO'

I also met a director of Japan America Society of Nevada.
She was a very charming woman.
This event was organized by JASN.  remembering 70 years of Peace, 70 years since the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing.
Thank you for a wonderful experience...

These are origami cranes.
I forgot how to make it, but eventually I remembered and made about 10 of them.
We have a custom to make one thousand of them, link them together and send it to Hiroshima.
You can imagine easily how hard making one thousand of those!
Each crane is full of love, condolence, and sympathy for victims of atomic bombing...
Maybe we can help them a little bit making one thousand of them in 'JAPAN!" class next summer!
